This position is what the founder in charge of product would do at an early stage startup. You’ll explore broadly by doing extensive customer development work. You’ll run tests, iterate, and find paydirt. Then you’ll scale a team and own the business’ growth until it is ready to graduate into the core business. Then you’ll get to do it all over again.
We’re looking for someone with a very high emotional intelligence (or EQ) that LOVES spending time with customers. You get antsy if you haven’t talked directly with customers in a couple weeks. You put people at ease, know what and how to ask great questions, make people feel valued, and are comfortable across cultures and socio-economic classes. You are able to hear what’s not being said and identify unspoken customer needs.
You will take those unspoken needs and translate them into solutions that create big opportunities for Remitly. You already know how to run proper qualitative and quantitative tests with customers. You can see the big picture and build the business case to get there.
You have management experience and love leading cross functional teams. You can communicate a vision to your team, to the customer, and to your investors (the management team). You know how to work with designers and engineers to build products and prioritize. You have the courage and tenacity to say no to anything but critical items.
Success will be measured by the size of the businesses you build and the efficiency with which you build them. Part of our charter is to be the team that cannibalizes our own core business with what’s next. It doesn’t get better than that.
You will report to the Director of New Initiatives and work collaboratively with your Explorer peers to share customer insights and figure out which businesses to double down on.
