We are looking for an entrepreneurial leader that is committed to identifying, seeding, and enabling a market for emerging technologies. The selected project will be fueled by results coming out of our internal research group as well as academia and the industry more broadly.Responsibilities: As an Incubation Project Leader, you will be responsible for engaging with external customers and partners to shape technology directions, build a prototype, engage in customer POCs, identify business propositions, and build a business case for a service or product derived from emerging technology.The primary responsibilities for this critical, emerging stage leadership role, include:Identifying customer needs and developing a business case for an emerging technology.Extrapolating business opportunities from emerging research resultsRecruiting and leading a small team to build prototypesIdentifying and leading customer proof-of-concept trials of relevant emerging technologiesDriving product-market fit for relevant emerging technologiesMaking a case to launch a new product or serviceThe Technology Incubation Leader is expected to engage in the following activities:Engaging with VMware’s customer base in selected industries to identify and refine new business and product opportunities. This activity includes: participating in industry forums, engaging with VMware’s field CTO advisory team, meeting with customer executives, and meeting with external software development teams to identify and refine a business proposition, a business case, and technological requirements around a selected emerging technology.Recruiting and leading a small and effective advanced development team.  This activity involves providing product management and architectural guidance, hardening research prototypes, assembling end-to-end proofs of concept, and deploying those proofs of concept in customer trials.Evangelizing insights and results within VMware to build momentum behind the business opportunity and motivate launch of a new product line.Working with relevant business units and market-facing organizations to advance the goals of the effort and of VMwareQualifications and ExperienceKnowledge of a VMware-relevant emerging technology area and/or other relevant related technical expertiseExperience with relevant customer segmentsProven track record of identifying business propositions and developing compelling business casesTechnical acumen sufficient to translate customer requirements into engineering requirements, and research advances into customer opportunitiesAbility to inspire and lead a small group of advanced developersTrack record of engaging with customers on trials to refine emerging technologyProduct management experience, particularly related early-stage technologyExcellent written and verbal communication skills with capability to:facilitate deep technical conversations with researchers within their field; anddescribe clearly to executives, customers and technologists outside of their field the nature and importance of the problem they are working on, the unique aspects of their approach, and their results and their implicationsEducationMaster’s or Doctorate degree (or equivalent experience) in a relevant area such as Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering.
