The Market Owner, Higher Education is responsible for helping to develop the company’s product strategy and vision for the higher education market. Reporting directly to the Vice President, Product Strategy & Product Management, this individual will help develop a 3 year strategy for this market including identifying new market needs and translating that into commercial products. This person will therefore need to lead our market intelligence by working with market research firms to understand customer needs. The Market Owner will also be responsible for competitive research and strategic win/loss analysis.
This is a highly visible role that will impact the company’s direction and future performance. This individual will be the company’s “go to” regarding understanding the intricacies of the higher education market. Strategic vision and financial analysis will be key in building business plans and executing build, buy, partner assessments.
You will be part of a dynamic, fun, and energetic team that will enable the company to meet its aggressive growth objectives. The Market Owner has management responsibilities. This position operates with low supervision.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
of the Product Owner include the following. May be required to perform other related duties as assigned.
Develop fluid, long term (three year) roadmaps for higher education products and work closely with product owners who manage concrete, near term (six month) roadmaps
Identify unmet market needs and create business plan to develop new products
Test and validate concepts with market intelligence and research
Perform strategic competitive analysis including win/loss
Help manage overall product portfolio to allocate resources and maximize investment
Execute on buy, build, or partner assessments including potential acquisitions
Work with Marketing on positioning and market segmentation
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
5 years of experience in product management, product marketing, corporate development or similar for higher education customers
Strong verbal and presentation skills to communicate ideas and innovations
Experience with strategic and financial analysis especially for business plans
Self-starter related to tasks, requests, and documentation
Proven track record of successful product launches, closed acquisitions or similar achievements
Entrepreneurial mentality to tackle a variety of duties, challenges, and opportunities
Stable job history
Product management or other business strategy experience
Pragmatic Marketing Certification is a plus
